Shadow Woods Reunion Campout -- FAQ

Don't worry, we got you. Here are some answers for your questions.

When and where is the campout?

The 2026 campout will be held from September 25-27, 2026, at Stoney Creek Campground in Great Cacapon, West Virginia. The street address is 72 Stoney Creek Rd, Great Cacapon, WV 25422. Physically, this address is closest to Largent, WV. Check-in can begin at noon on Friday, September 25, and you must pack up and vacate the premises by 3 pm on Sunday, September 27. Registration is accepted via this link [coming soon], and payment is accepted only via Zelle, Venmo and CashApp or personal check (follow the link for instructions.)  There are no entry sales "at the gate" -- all registrations must be submitted in advance.

What are the campground facilities like?

Stoney Creek Campground features four large campsites: North, Rocks, South, and Bridge. The Bridge site is closest to the river and offers the best WiFi. Amenities on-site include:

  • Stoney Creek Country Store (deli, snacks, firewood, beer, first add supplies, fishing supplies, pantry items, ice, convenience store items; accepts credit cards)

  • Pavilion (next to the store)

  • Cacapon River Outfitters (for rentals and trips)

  • There is a small playground, giant swing, bathhouse, and a few mobile homes on private property behind the store

What if I don’t want to camp onsite? What are my options?

There are many hotels, motels, lodges, B&Bs, and other accommodations within 40 minutes of Stoney Creek that will allow you to spend your days and evenings with us and then retreat to more plush creature comforts after a short drive. There is plenty of parking onsite at Stoney Creek so that you can leave and return. Our venue host recommends Cacapon State Park and Resort or Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals (specify that you want to be closer to Stoney Creek Campground/Largent WV). Your best deal is camping at Stoney Creek. The registration fee is the same whether you stay on-site or not.

In addition, there is ample parking near the Bridge camping area on the lawn where non-campers can park.

What are the store hours and offerings?

The Stoney Creek Country Store is generally open on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday (subject to change). The store offers made-to-order pizza, subs, milkshakes, ice cream, and the “best cheesesteak you ever had.” It is a convenience store with pretty much everything from ice to propane to fishing gear, OTC medicine, and sundries such as bread, milk, and eggs. A wide variety of beer and wine are also available for purchase.

What are the quiet hours?

Quiet hours are from sundown to sunup. Please be careful with other campers and area residents and keep noise to a minimum during these times. No loud music and no fireworks!  NOTE -- there is a rooster on site -- bring earplugs for sleeping!

Are RVs and campers allowed?

Yes, the campground accommodates a range of RVs and campers, including travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and more. However, there are no hookups for water, sewage, or electricity. Please note:

  • Back-in sites with grass surfaces (some uneven, requiring leveling).

  • Quiet inverter generators are allowed.

  • RVs and trailers under 35 feet in length are best suited.

  • Do not park beyond the "no parking beyond this point" signs.

Are campfires allowed?

Yes, campfires are allowed under specific conditions:

  • Use designated firepits.

  • You can burn driftwood found on-site (plenty is available), but you cannot cut live trees or vegetation.

  • Firewood can be purchased from the Stoney Creek Country Store.

  • West Virginia recommends using locally sourced firewood to prevent the spread of pest bugs.

  • Fires are allowed for cooking, light, or warmth. However, all fires must be attended to and fully extinguished when not in use.

Can I bring my child(ren)?

Yes, children are welcome! Children aged infant to 17 years are $25. You must be the parent or legal guardian of the child to register them. Children should be supervised at all times, especially around the water!

What river activities are available?

  • All trips are handled directly through Cacapon River Outfitters, located on the campground premises. You can book online in advance on their website (subject to availability).

  • Trips: a 3-5 hour tubing experience with a shuttle is available (Friday-Sunday only). Or you can book a kayak trip, the same distance, but it will take about 2 hours.

  • Rentals: You can rent a premium, heavy-duty tube. You can also rent a canoe. Explore the river upstream and downstream. You may need to drag the canoe over the rocks. The rentals can be arranged in advance or on-site via Cacapon River Outfitters.

  • Fishing: Licenses can be purchased from the West Virginia DNR website. The river offers excellent fishing opportunities.

  • All activities are AT YOUR OWN RISK.

What are the bathroom and shower facilities like?

There is a main bathhouse trailer with private, gender-neutral, lockable flush toilets and hot showers. A gender-neutral porta-potty and a two-stall bathroom (separate doors) are available near the store/pavilion as a backup option. Please clean up after yourself and leave the facilities better than how you found it. No other outdoor bathroom use (such as in the bushes) is allowed. Repeat, no pooping at the campsites.

Can I bring my pet?

Well-behaved, socialized pets are welcome. There is a $10 non-refundable pet fee if you decide to bring your pet. Your pet must be leashed, well-behaved, and cleaned up after. Bring your pet waste baggies. Make sure pets accompany you on any activities (hiking, boating, etc.).

What bands are playing?

LINEUP for 2026 COMING SOON! When available they will be listed HERE!

Bands will play in the pavilion on Saturday only, between 2 pm and 11 pm. Genres will range from folk to hard rock and metal. If you have been to previous Shadow Woods events, you know it will be an eclectic mix of known and unknown performers. You won’t be disappointed. Just understand that the reunion campout is NOT a music festival on the scale of previous Shadow Woods Metal Fest events.

Is drinking water available?

Yes, potable water is available at the bathhouse or via hydrants near the store. During certain seasons, the well water may smell of sulfur. We recommend filtering or letting the water stand. You can also bring bottled water or buy gallons at the store.

Is this event BYOB? What about other recreational substances?

You may bring your own beer, wine, liquor, water, soft drinks, coffee, etc. It is illegal to use marijuana for recreational purposes in West Virginia. However, qualifying patients registered under the West Virginia Medical Cannabis Program with approved debilitating conditions can use cannabis for medical purposes in the state.

Is WiFi available?

WiFi is available within 300 feet of the bathhouse and the Stoney Creek Country Store. The Bridge site and store offer the best WiFi coverage. Note, however, that cell phone coverage is practically nonexistent.

What is the trash policy?

Stoney Creek adheres to Leave No Trace principles. Please pack out all trash, including food waste and cigarette butts, and do not leave any bags at the campground or store. Trash burning is prohibited. Do not put your trash in the store dumpster. Bring your own trash bag. Leave your site better than you found it!

Can I cook at my campsite?

Yes, you may bring your own food, and campfires for food preparation are allowed. However, no cooking equipment is provided, so bring your camping stove or grill if needed. Please keep food locked in your vehicle or a bear-proof box to avoid attracting animals. You may also buy food from the country store, but I don't suggest relying entirely on the store.

Can I check in early or extend my stay?

To extend your stay before or after the Shadow Woods Reunion Campout, please book directly with Stoney Creek Campground via the listing on HipCamp

What if it rains?

It is possible that if it rains heavily the camping areas will be flooded and our event will have to be cancelled. I will contact the property owner in the days leading up to our campout to ensure it is safe to attend. I will decide by noon on September 23, 2026, if we are rained out, and I will message everyone by text and email. I will also issue a refund minus a portion of the non-refundable fees and deposit I had to pay to reserve the site to the account you used to register. Hopefully, this won't happen, as September tends to be dry, but you never know!

What are the river conditions?

To check current and forecast river conditions, visit https://water.noaa.gov/gauges/gcpw2 (or Google "national weather gcpw2" Cacapon gauge). The river is safe and enjoyable between 1.5 and 3 feet. Below 1.5 feet, you may need to drag boats through shallow areas. The Outfitter usually stops running trips once the water is muddy (3 feet+). ALL ACTIVITIES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Will there be vendors? Will there be reunion t-shirts?

Bands and any other vending will take place in and around the pavilion. BE PREPARED TO USE CASH FOR PURCHASES FROM BANDS AS CARD SWIPING DEVICES MAY NOT WORK!
